EF Educational Tours
Reviews and Complaints
Thieves!
Our son was signed up to go on one of their tours in the summer of 2024 (mind you, it's March of 2023 now). We've had a change in circumstances that won't allow him to go.
To date, this outfit has taken $750 via auto-draft payments, and now we learn that they plan on keeping just about all of that! They claim there's an option for a "partial" refund, but we'll be out at least $400 it sounds like. Additionally, their business practices are misleading and borderline threatening. They demand that you keep paying them, and that they offer some sort of special incentives to customers who have over $1500 in "credit" payments with them.
We're talking to our bank today about getting some relief from these crooks. They state that their policies are clearly spelled out, but I completely disagree. They are a SCAM operation that puts money first, not education. Be VERY wary of dealing with them.
In fact, here's a better piece of advice: DON'T! In addition to being conniving, their representative I spoke with on the phone was rude and condescending.
Buyer beware. I'll happily spread this message over every social media platform I can think of for as long as my fingers will cut and paste messages.

Not refunding after Covid
My daughter's trip--language program in Nice was canceled ssummerof 2020 due to Covid. We had a $538 downpayment that I was told multiple times could be used moving forward either for that daughter or could be transferred within family.
EF called the spring of 2021 and 2022 to ask if we were booking trips. For various reasons daughter was unable to go those summers. Was told credit woudl be valid until September 2025. I tried to book daughter for this summer 2023 and spent 1 month trying to have them acknowledge that I had credit.
After one month of back and forth, they replied that there was no credit , but they were willing to waive the trip cancelation fee of $238. DEALING WITH EF WAS A JOKE.

Verified ReviewerThe entire experience was negative stay away.
The entire experience was negative. If I could have added my sons mother on the website and change it where my son and his mother had a room to them self from the beginning like it was told to us my son would still be set up.
For your specialist I would say the problem is EF tours. We where not told if you cancel automatic payment that you can't get a refund.
We was told we had a 14 day period to cancel and get full refund.
We wasn't told that you can only get refund if you call and when you call your on hold for 45 min or whatever it was and the sound keep changing and even going long periods of time with no sound at all.
Then when EF decides to do a refund it was never explained that you have to wait at least 6 weeks for refunds to be released back to your back then 10 business days for your bank to return your money.
So will I be letting everyone know to stay clear of EF tours depends on if my refund is returned asap or if I post on every site I can find until I get my refund of what poor service you will expect from EF Tours.

Avoid at all costs! This company is a scam.
Avoid at all costs! This company is a scam.
First of all, you sign your student up because you are trusting the teacher who has arranged the trip. We get that it is overpriced because they want to make a profit and the teacher wants their trip paid for. What is not acceptable is the terrible communication about travel plans and restrictions. Especially during a pandemic where these things change constantly.
Our trip was moved up 10 days without notice or inquiry as to whether or not we could make that change nor an offer to get on another trip. Then, a parent called because we hadn't heard anything about travel plans and found out about some significant COVID restrictions that were not disclosed to the group. Many are not able to meet those restrictions and need to cancel. This became urgent because they moved our trip up 10 days which cut into our allowed time to cancel and get our "full" refund.
When we called to cancel, they refuse to give us our full refund and claim to keep $500 despite their poor communication, COVID restrictions, and the paid insurance plan which has turned out to be a scam too. When we ask to escalate our concern, managers have decided to refuse to accept or return our calls.
They know they are being dishonest and scamming these kids and their families. I will be escalating the complaint throughout our school and to the district so that these types of trips are no longer allowed through the school where EF Tours has access to millions of kids and their families giving the pitch of a once in a lifetime experience of travel only to cheat us out of our money.

Verified ReviewerEF tours is a travel Ponzi scheme
EF tours is a Ponzi scheme. Even with purchasing their insurance, the company refunded the trip less $500.
My daughter's school board is not allowing travel. This is the second time with the pandemic this trip has been canceled and a voucher is asinine. You can't run a company and be this crooked. I was a chaperone a few years for EF tours when I worked as a teacher.
The food was terrible and the accommodations were questionable. However, the kids always had a good time together and that's what I was trying to give my daughter even though I knew I was paying double what it would cost for a family trip. She will have been out of the school for 2 years and to send her with a bunch of strangers is not the trip we signed up for. I know some of the groups we were put on buses with were horrible and not at all the type of people I would want my kids around...
know this, if you accept a voucher and send your child there is no way you will ever know who they are with or the chaperones that will be in charge of your children. It will be complete strangers.
I like many on here would give the company zero stars at this point if I could. However, I do take some solace that I may see them filing bankruptcy if they continue on this path.
- No pros
- Cancellation policy
Preferred solution: Full refund
